ABOUT US

The Bonsai Society of the Palm Beaches was officially incorporated as the South Palm Bonsai Society on June 11, 1982, even though its roots go back to 1973 as one of the original 10 clubs that founded BSF. This was one of the clubs that helped start the bonsai collection at the Morikami Museum and did a large share of the work to construct and maintain it. Several of its members were instrumental in creating the Bonsai Societies of Florida, and served as officers and on committees to make it and the Museum a reality.
In 1998 the name was changed to more accurately reflect our membership, and to facilitate inquiries and searches for the Bonsai club easier to find. Our neighbor, Lighthouse Bonsai Society, meeting in Boca Raton, serves the Southern part of Palm Beach County and Northern Broward County.
Like other clubs in Florida, our purpose is: “to bring together at stated monthly intervals members and guests who are interested in the art of Bonsai; to exchange knowledge, to encourage all to participate in every aspect of bonsai culture and demonstrations thereof.” We endeavor to bring Bonsai information and assistance to the community by participating in flower and plant shows, advertising our presence, and using any and all opportunities for public relations at our disposal.
For the past couple years we have had many major newspaper articles about bonsai featured with lots of pictures.
On the first Tuesday of every month, a group of people interested in the art of Bonsai meet at the Mount’s Botanical Garden. Our meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. and lasts until everyone goes home. The address is 531 North Military Trail, about half way between Southern Boulevard and Belevedere Road, on the west side.
