3rd annual Bonsai Exhibit at On top of the World
The 3rd annual Bonsai Exhibit at On top of the World is seven weeks away, and I'm ready for you to tell me what plants you want to show. Last year we had 52 trees (38 species) from 15 members. We need at least 30 plants (50 to choose from would be great) but we would like to have more than 15 members exhibiting trees. Attached is a list of trees from last year's exhibit.
When you email (or call me at 854-352-7569) with your selections, please include the following tree information by Jan 22nd:
Tree Common Name Tree Botanical Name Estimated Age
Let me know if you are unable to deliver/pickup your trees at the Exhibit so that I can pick them up from you and/or return them.
I also need a list of volunteers by Feb 14. Help is needed for setting up (Wed noon, Feb 24), striking (Sat noon, Feb 27), greeting and letting people know its free, answering Bonsai questions, attendance, assisting in our four classes, and keeping an eye on things, etc.
There will be four classes. A 1-hour Introduction to Basic Horticultural and Artistic Principles will be offered at 1 PM on Thur. Feb. 25, at 10 AM on Fri. Feb. 26, and at 10 AM on Sat. Feb. 27 with Demo on Saturday. The Power Point presentation created by Peter Wood will be used but Pete will not be here. I can do the class unless someone more experienced in Bonsai would like to take it over (will email you the Power Point). A volunteer is needed to do the Saturday Introduction Demonstration after the Power Point.
David Van Buskirk will do a 1-1/2 hour hour Demonstration at 1 PM on Fri. Feb 26. I haven't talked with Dave yet but it will probably be the Creation of a Bonsai from a Training Pot that he did last year.
Classes are free to MBS members. To register go to www.masterthepossibilities.com or call 352-854-3699 or stop by the MTP office (tell them you are a MBS member, otherwise it's $5).
I'll be at the January meeting and will pass out Exhibit flyers that you can post. I will not be at the February meeting (St. Martin from Jan 23 to Feb 6).
